Donington – race report

Donington Park is one of the quickest and fast flowing tracks in the UK. It demands character and stamina in equal measures. The entry was much improved over late and it was good to see numbers returning to race. A bonus was the fact we had garages to use. In the event the weather was largely on our side with a lot of sun and a couple of minor showers of rain to put up with. However the qualifying and race sessions were not spoiled by wet weather.

Qualifying went well for Luke Johnson in his brand new car(133) as he claimed the Puma Cup pole with a time of 1:27.724. Hot on his heels came the car shared by Hamish Brandon/Rob Ladbrook who recorded a 1:28.105. In third came Jon Attard and then Scruton, Boult, Hadfield, Phillips/Barr, Eacock and Towler.

The race started well in bright conditions and looked set to go well until the second lap when three cars had contact and two retired immediately (Scruton – Ladbrook/Brandon) Eacock managed to drive into the pits and subsequently retired on lap 21 of 29. Chequered flag was out promptly with the 40 miuntes secured on the clock and Luke Johnson took a good win from another great recovery drive from Jon Attard and John Boult in third.

Next outing will be the last race event for 2017 as we head to Brands Hatch for a mixture of day and night racing on November 11/12.
